Healthy Eating Made Easy: Tips for Ordering In
By the Orda team
Ordering in doesn’t have to mean giving up on eating reasonably well — a few small habits make more difference than switching what you order entirely.
Add a side. Most menus have some form of vegetables, salad or a lighter side dish alongside the main event — adding one is usually a smaller decision than picking a whole different meal.
Watch portions, not just ingredients. A large portion of something modest can add up to more than a smaller portion of something richer. If a restaurant offers a smaller size, it’s worth considering even if the price difference is small.
Drink water alongside your meal. It’s an easy habit to skip when a meal shows up ready to eat, but it’s one of the simplest changes that actually sticks.
Read the description before you order, not just the dish name. A menu item’s description usually tells you how it’s prepared — fried versus grilled, for instance — which is often a more useful signal than the name alone.
Space meals out instead of stacking them close together. Ordering delivery doesn’t remove the usual gap between meals — eating a large delivery order right after a big lunch adds up the same way home-cooked food would.
None of this is medical advice — if you’re managing a specific health condition, what you eat day to day is worth discussing with an actual healthcare provider, not a blog post.
